Reactions as the Emir of Kano Declares Love for Jesus Christ

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II (born Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) continues to influence conversations on social media.

The ruler who is also the leader of the Tijaniyya Sufi order, the second most important Muslim position in Nigeria after the Sultan of Sokoto, kicked off a conversation on religious tolerance by declaring love for the Christian Jesus Christ.
“Many people are unaware of the fact that one cannot be a Muslim without loving Jesus (Peace be upon him) known in Arabic as Isa (Alayhis Salam),” he captioned his Instagram photo which read out the words, ‘I Love Jesus’.

In minutes, the post garnered over a thousand likes, and has kicked off a tensed debate all over social media.
While some Nigerians are impressed by the Emir’s declaration, others point out that the Christian Jesus Christ is not a prophet as Islam states, but God himself.
However, a discerning few have noted the point of the Emir’s post: respect and tolerance for religion, the important step that would curb the spate of religion-incited violence in the country.
